Summary
Bethel University, in partnership with the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC), has a campus license for ESRI ArcGIS. Faculty also have access to a work at home license of ArcGIS for educational uses. If you need ArcGIS installed on your computer (Windows only) please submit your request to the Help Desk or TLT. ArcGIS can be found on any public lab or classroom Windows computer on the Twin Cities campuses.
ArcGIS is a spatial data analysis program (GIS = Geographic Information Systems).

Getting Started with GIS (for ArcGIS 10.0)
This course will help you understand what a geographic information system is and why organizations around the world rely on GIS technology. You will learn how GIS maps are different from other types of paper and digital maps, what makes the data used in a GIS unique, and how to use GIS software to obtain information and create meaningful maps. In course exercises and activities, you will work with ArcGIS software and see how a GIS supports problem solving in many different contexts.
