Summary: Two options for sharing video assignments in Moodle.

Option 1

Video Forum using PoodLL

Anywhere in Moodle where you are using the text editor (like in discussion forums) you have access to a number of PoodLL tools. Within the toolbar is a series of PoodLL icons. These icons give you access to a PoodLL video recorder.

Note: PoodLL does not interface well with Safari. Please use a different web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox).

To use the PoodLL tools in the text editor toolbar look for the PoodLL video recorder icon -

Video recorder

  1. Click on the camera icon
  2. Select the microphone/webcam you wish to use for recording by clicking on the gear icon in the lower right hand corner
  3. Click “Record” and record your video
  4. Click “Stop” to stop the recording and your recording will automatically be uploaded
  5. Click “Insert” and the video link will be placed in text box
  6. You can then add additional items in the text editor or hit save

Students can record their video directly into the forum and can reply to one another's posts by recording video.

Below on the left is an example using the Moodle blog-like forum option, though the standard forum option works great too! In the blog-like format that students' videos for their initial posts are shown on one page. Click on Discuss this topic (highlighted in orange in the screenshot) to reply, or to read posted replies.

Below on the right is an example of a discussion thread. Students can click on Reply to reply to one another's posts. After they click reply, they need to click on advanced to access the toolbar with the video recording option.

To reply with video, click on Advanced. Then click on the camera icon.

Sample instructions:

Using the video feature in Moodle, in a video no longer than 90 seconds, record yourself discussing the weather.

In your response to others compare and contrast their weather vs. the weather you are experiencing.

Note: When responding to your peer’s initial post, after clicking “reply” click “advanced” in order to record a video response.
