Faculty or Staff of Bethel University

  • For install on your Bethel owned computer: Contact ITS Help Desk to request installation on your Bethel Laptop or Desktop computer.  If  you will be running SPSS when not plugged into the campus network (at home, traveling, etc.), a Commuter License is required to run SPSS. The SPSS university enterprise version must be installed on your laptop for the Commuter License to work. This license will reside on your laptop and allow access to SPSS for the time period granted (10 day maximum and then must be renewed on campus). The Commuter License is only available to university-owned laptops.  If you have questions please contact the help desk at 651-638-6500 #1. [Installing an SPSS Commuter License on Laptops]
  • If you need longer term access then is allowed by the commuter license please contact TLT as we currently have a limited number of licenses for off-campus faculty for install on your personal computer.  Use is limited to those faculty that teach course that utilize SPSS in a teaching related capacity and that do not have ready access to campus to allow for the use of a 10 day commuter license. Currently this is free but in the future there may be a charge of $38.15 per year for such personal license installs for faculty (Bethel cost on top of our site license).

Faculty Support

While we can help you with installation, SPSS is a powerful statistical tool that requires graduate level training for effective use.  We recommend that you find a colleague that understands both statistics and SPSS to aid you.  Otherwise you also might find answers in the knowledge base.  For questions or assistance contact the ITS Help Desk.

Class Use of SPSS

Faculty that would like to use SPSS for a specific class session have the following options available.

1. Attempt to schedule one of the Campus Technology Classrooms which have SPSS installed

All instructor workstations and Computer Classrooms have SPSS installed, including CC325 (35 computers), Hc254 (30 computers) and HC260 (22 computers).

2. Use a Mobile computing lab: Anderson Center classrooms also have access to a laptop cart with SPSS installed as part of the image.  Contact TLT or CAPS/GS for information about the Anderson Center cart, which can be reserved using the online Reservation Form.

3. Students that are expected to purchase a 6 or 12 month license could be asked to also bring their laptops to class.  If not all students are able to do this, the instructor could arrange to check out laptops from the Library pool for use by the students during the class session.  Booking these in advance would be a good idea (booking reservation form).
