A student must be registered with the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) to request a parking permit appeal and receive a parking accommodation.

We first need the following information:

  • Documentation of the need for a parking accommodation from a licensed provider

The documentation should include a statement of diagnosis and recommended accommodation, including the parking permit appeal requested. The documentation should be submitted to the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services.

Documentation can be emailed to accessibility-services@bethel.edu or faxed to 651.638.6307. Documentation may also be brought by the OARS office, RC200 (across from the Wellness Center).

Once our office receives the completed application and sufficient documentation we will schedule a time for the student to meet with the OARS Accommodations Coordinator as well as a representative from the Office of Safety and Security to discuss the appeal.

The appeal for a parking permit accommodation will then go to the Parking Appeals Committee for review.

The Parking Appeals will review the request and determine if the parking permit accommodation will be given to the student. The student will receive notification from OARS as to the decision of the committee.

The committee meets once a month. The student should not bring their vehicle to campus unless the accommodation is approved and the student has made necessary arrangements with the Office of Safety and Security to receive the permit. Bringing the vehicle on campus prior to approval will result in incurring fines.

Accommodations may be granted for:

  • A medically-based need for a vehicle.
  • An appointment schedule which would require regular and frequent transportation (must document the frequency and duration of the appointments)

Please note: Parking accommodations are not granted retroactively to address previous parking violations. The student will be required to pay any parking fines received prior to obtaining a parking permit accommodation.
