Bethel University prohibits drug use, possession and/or distribution at any point during a given year. Students are responsible for knowing, understanding and observing Bethel University’s drug policies.

  • Possessing, using, manufacturing, cultivating, selling, passing or distributing any controlled or illegal substance, designer or synthetic drug is prohibited. The possession and use of marijuana is prohibited, including all variations. The term use includes, but is not limited to, drinking, ingesting (i.e. edibles, gummies), or introducing any amount of the prohibited substance into one’s body.
    • Bethel University University does not recognize medical marijuana as an exception to its drug policies. Students are expected to contact a Student Life dean to discuss possible exceptions in medical situations in advance of any marijuana use.
  • Possessing and/or use of any drug paraphernalia (i.e. vape, bowls, rolling papers, pipes, hookah pipes, bongs, “homemade” smoking devices) and other smoking devices or smoking paraphernalia for intended or implied use of any form of drug is prohibited.
  • Using substances not necessarily considered illegal, but are used in a manner to elicit a feeling of being “buzzed”, high or intoxicated (this includes use of marijuana and Delta 8) is prohibited. The use of any substance to alter one’s personality, behavior or physical or emotional state is strictly prohibited.
  • Misuse or unlawful use of over-the-counter drugs or prescription drugs is prohibited. This includes inappropriate sharing of prescription drugs.
  • Using mail services to purchase, pass, or distribute illegal drugs.
  • Students are accountable for upholding Bethel University drug policies even when traveling to states or countries in which certain drugs have been decriminalized. Though some impairing substances may be legal to purchase in some states/countries, Bethel University prohibits the possession and/or use of these substances by its students.

Educational programs focused on the physical, intellectual, and emotional effects of drug use are available to all members of the Bethel community. Those who find themselves struggling with drug or substance abuse or addiction can find help through the Office of Student Life, Counseling Services, or Health Services. Students who come to the Office of Student Life seeking help for drug-related issues will be responded to under the non-disciplinary policy.

Failure to comply with Bethel’s drug possession and use policy will result in disciplinary responses up to and including suspension from the university. For further explanation of disciplinary responses to drug possession and use, see the Disciplinary Policy and Procedures. See Alcohol and Drug Abuse Resources.
